THE DISEASEPeriodontal (Gum) Disease is the inflammatory disease
which affects the gum and supporting bone of the teeth.
This leads to the detachment of the gum from the root
surface (pocketing), looseness of the tooth, recession, and
eventually the loss of the tooth. It is caused by the build-up
of bacterial plaque on the tooth surface. In some cases
there are modifying factors such as genetic influence.
